About
Brennar, from Virginia Beach, VA started dancing at the age of 8 when his grandmother taught him Carolina Shag. From that point on Brennar had the bug. He has been competing in Shag since the age of 9 and has won numerous titles including National Shag Dance Championships Junior Overall in 2004, 2007, and 2008, Grand Nationals Junior I champion in 2004 and Junior II champion for 2005-2008 with his previous partner Autumn Jones. He was a member of the award winning competition team, the National Shag Dance Team from 2004 through 2008. Brennar also won the team division at the US Open in 2008 with his Shag team, Southern Fried with Junior Pride, that he co-choreographed and coached.
Torri, lives in Murrieta, Ca and has been dancing since she was 3. She concentrated on jazz, tap and ballet early on until she was introduced to West Coast Swing by Buddy and Laurie Schwimmer(Kauffman). Torri fell in love with swing dancing and competed at her first U.S. Open at the age of 7. She has not missed an Open since then. She currently has been honored with winning the Young America Division in 2001 and 2002 and the Young Adult Division in 2006 with her previous partner, Josh Mosier, as well as the team division with her teammates on Jump Start II in 2005. Torri also has trained in International Style Latin Dance and competed for several years in this discipline in which she won the Junior II Division title at Nationals in 2005. She has appeared in Disney’s Suite Life of Zack and Cody in 2006 as a dancer. She also worked as assistant choreograher to Benji Schwimmer on Fox’s hit television series So You Think You Can Dance in the United States as well as Canada in 2007 and 2008. In April of 2009, she danced with Benji on ABC Dancing with the Stars performing with Demi Lovato.
Their unlikely partnership which came from two very similar yet different styles of dance also had the challenge of over 3000 miles separating them physically. Had it not been for their dear friend and coach, Benji Schwimmer, encouraging them to give it a shot and helping them immensely through his innovative choreography and his unending support, they never would have realized this dream come true partnership. Since joining together, Torri and Brennar have won the Young Adult Division at the US Open in 2007, 2008 and 2009. They have also won the Junior Swing Divisions at Grand Nationals, Capital Swing, Boogie by the Bay, Swing Diego and many other prestigious events. Torri joined the Southern Fried with Junior Pride shag dance team in April of 2009 and helped them secure Formation Team titles at Grand Nationals and Liberty Swing Dance Championships this year as well. And they have just recently been crowned the National Shag Dance Championships Junior II and Overall Junior winners. Most recently, Torri and Brennar won the Classic Division at the US Open in November 2010 and placed 2nd in the Team Division with their new Shag team, Southern Dozen. Torri was also honored to have won the Showcase division with Benji Schwimmer.
Torri is in her first year of college and both she and Brennar plan to attend different Universities specializing in medical profession training while traveling and competing around the world doing what they love. They each have embraced the other’s style of dance and they have found fun and innovative ways to combine the two styles while staying true to the foundations of each dance. They are currently scheduled to dance and/or teach at many major U.S. events this year. They look forward to exposing the world to their youthful, fusion of Swing and Shag that has come to be known as Swag!

Hey Kids!!!! I’m a 62 year old woman, life long tap dancer, from coastal NC who has been shagging since 3rd grade—and have always loved it. In fact, rumor has it that my uncle, after spending a week in Myrtle Beach back in the late 40’s or early 50’s—transported his crowd and the music back to the family house in Atlantic Beach—and they then taught the “newest dance” to any and all kids around—for 3 straight days!!!
Alas–I married a non dancer—so my joy comes from watching two amazing young people like yourselves!! I do believe you kids are the best to have ever taken to the floor to shag—and there have been some great ones)!!
Always hold on to that contagious joy you obviously feel doing something you love. Part of your magic is that anyone with eyes can see the fun you are having—-and we can all share in that!!!
Thank you for the fun I’m having just watching!!!!
